How Do I Connect HP Printer to WiFi Using WPS Pin?

Have you seen that blue screen appearing on your computer, asking you to enter the WPS pin for your printer? You must be scratching your head, thinking where to get it from so that you can establish the printer-computer connection over a wireless network. This guide covers all the essential steps to make you learn the WiFi protected setup of your HP printer. We will be using an eight-digit unique pin for that purpose.

WPS Pushbutton is an alternate way to connect the printer with the network. But it requires the physical WPS button on the router. In case it doesn't possess the Pushbutton, you will need to enter the Pin WPS in the desired field. Let's get into insights.

What is WPS Pin? Is it safe!

WPS stands for WiFi protected setup. Although it's a bit lengthy process, but one of the safest ones to establish printer & computer communication over WiFi. Most importantly, it only works with the WPA or WPA 2 encrypted routers, forming an excellent network security standard.

Many users ask questions like how to find it? Can I get it from my router? What is the best possible way to generate WPS pin? Well, we will address all these questions in the next section.

Generate Pin From Printer With Touch Panel (OfficeJet or Envy Series)

Most of the latest HP Printer series like HP Envy 7855, 7155 or HP OfficeJet Pro 9015, 8025, 8035 possess LCD screens. By using the below instructions, you can obtain the Pin WPS from your printer.

1.      Plug your printer to the wall socket.

2.      Turn in on and wait for the LCD screen to be activated.

3.      Once your printer displays "ready" on screen, click Settings.

4.      Now choose Network Setup.

5.      Scroll down the LCD screen and click Wireless Settings > click WiFi protected setup.

6.      Out of the two options, choose a PIN.

7.      Your printer displays a unique eight-digit pin, note it down, and enter it on your computer.

Get Pin From Printer without Touch Panel (DeskJet series)

Most of the HP DeskJet series printers like HP DeskJet 3636, 410, 2331, 2778, etc., do not have a touch panel. Either they have a tiny screen or nothing at all. Hence the process of obtaining a WPS pin is a bit different. Follow the below instructions to get the pin.

1.      Download the HP Smart app on your mobile phone (You will need to add printer in the application in later steps).

2.      Ensure your printer On.

3.      Locate the Wireless and Cancel button on your printer.

4.      Press these two buttons together for three seconds.

5.      The power light will start blinking, which represents the printer is ready for pairing and WPS connection.

6.      Further, open the HP Smart app, click the Add Printer button on the application.

7.      From the list of printers, choose yours to add in the app.

8.      Go to the home page of HP Smart, click Printer Settings.

9.      Click Printer Reports under the Tool section.

10.  Now you will have to click the Network Configuration Report to get it in the printed form.

11.  Look into the report and get the Pin.

12.  This pin is valid for five minutes. Quickly enter the pin on the desired field on your PC.
